This Saturday I’ll be down at the Public Market for the first time as a candidate for City Council. The market remains one of Red Deer’s finest cultural events and it’s been awhile since I’ve been there as anything other than a visitor. In the first three or four years when Sunworks was new my partner Terry, and I sold our wares nearly every week. Some years were better for weather than others. On more than one occasion we had to weigh down our displays to survived the wind. It’s with a little anxiety that I imagine the campaign banner doing the same, nonetheless I’ll be there with two volunteers and encourage you to stop by. Let’s talk about the city and its future. Let’s not be afraid to discuss anything openly and honestly. I believe that community dialogue is always a good thing, especially when everyone comes to the conservations with curiosity and respect. Imagine the connections that might form and the possibilities that may open up.
Next week we have the opportunity to view the some of the City-owned buildings in Riverlands that might be suitable for a year-round public market. On July 29th we’ll meet at Sunworks at 2:00 p.m. and then walk over to the old bus barns from here. If you are interested in participating in the establishment of a year-round market please let me know. I’ll have a sign up sheet on Saturday.
Also we are launching the campaign website on Saturday morning. I’ll have those details at the market as well, but certainly stay tuned to Facebook and Twitter once it is up and live. Truly, I’m looking forward to meeting and chatting with as many of you as I can during the campaign. Don’t hesitate to call.
